Frequently Asked Questions

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese energy balancing technique which encourages relaxation, stress reduction, health and general well-being. Modern Reiki was discovered in the early 1900’s by Dr. Mikao Usui.

The word Reiki is formed by two Japanese characters or kanji:

Rei – meaning God’s Wisdom or Higher Power

Ki – meaning Life Force Energy

When put together, Reiki translates to Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy.

Reiki is based on the idea that there is an unseen Life Force Energy that flows through us and gives us life.  This Life Force Energy is known as Ki in Japan, Chi in China and Prana in India.  When our Life Force Energy is low, we are likely to experience stress, sluggishness and illness.  When our Life Force Energy is high, we are more inclined to experience feelings of health, happiness and well-being.

Is Reiki a Religion?

Reiki is not a religion nor is it associated with any religious practice.  Reiki can be enjoyed by everyone.

How Does Reiki Feel?

Each person’s experience is unique to them. You may feel deep relaxation, a sense of letting go, energy moving through your body and warmth.  You may even see colors!

After your Reiki treatment, you may experience feelings of clarity, harmony, new perspectives, flow of energy and overall well-being.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the application of pressure, with the fingers, to reflex points on the bottom of the feet. Each reflex corresponds to an organ, gland or nerve in the body.  Stimulating the reflexes causes the body to detox and rebalance itself, leading to improved health and well-being.

The palm of the hands contain similar reflex areas to the feet. Reflexology can be administered to the feet, hands or both.

Reflexology has been practiced all over the world for many thousands of years. Reflexology has been traced back to Africa, China, Egypt, India and Japan. More recently, reflexology was rediscovered by Dr. William H. Fitzgerald, an American physician, in 1913.

What Should I Expect?

We’ll spend a few minutes discussing and identifying any issues you wish to work on.  You will set an intention and then lie down on a massage table.  You will remain fully clothed (please wear loose, comfortable clothing).  Shoes are removed for added relaxation and flow of energy.

Chakra Balancing: I’ll guide you through a short meditation to activate your chakras. Then I’ll place crystals on each of your chakras and in the aura around your body.

What About After My Treatment?

We’ll talk about your experience and I’ll answer any questions you may have.  Drinking plenty of water and avoiding caffeine and alcohol is recommended to help your body with the detoxification process.  If you are able, give yourself some time to relax to help the healing energy harmonize more effectively with your body.
